PYO Strawberries

Hello again :)

When I was little my parents would always take us Strawberry picking when the season started. It reminds me of summer and always loved going to this place! There are many pictures of me with strawberry juice all over my face as instead of picking them I normally just ate them! If you have been before you know that this isn’t really allowed but as I was long little I ate away :)

I haven’t been in a couple of years and last week really fancied going. So as I was in Newcastle anyways handing in my keys from my flat I thought it was the perfect opportunity to visit my Grandparents and go strawberry picking with them. We go to Brocksbushes Farm as they have loads of fields to pick from and you know there will always be good ones there :) I also think that they are open through the year as they have different seasonal fruits like Blackberries and Plums which are normally picked in the autumn.

As its July, Strawberries and Gooseberries are in season so perfect for picking. I love eating Gooseberries on their own, even though they are really sour and you’re meant to make a crumble or jam with them, I eat them how they come! Strawberries are the main attraction, this farm has so many patches and most of the land is covered with strawberry plants so there is always a section with is ready to be picked.

At the top of the field there was a sign for Tayberries, me and my boyfriend when to inspect to see what these where, however they weren’t ripe so we couldn’t tell. If anyone knows what these are please leave a comment because I have never seen these before and they intrigue me.

As you can see we picked quite a lot, these were for 4 different families so we did spread them out. The fruit from PYO farms are the best tasting fruit you could imagine! They are full of flavour and just look so appealing. Brocksbushes have a loyalty card scheme where your third time is free, I’m not a 100% sure what this means but I think it’s a good way of encouraging people back :)

I didn’t think they were that expensive and it is a lovely day out for the family at all ages! I know there are a lot of these farm in England so if you haven’t been before find one near go and give it ago. It’s a really nice activity to do on a lovely day and gets everyone involved and at the end of it you have the nicest Strawberries which beat Supermarket ones ever time :)

What reminds you of your childhood? Or which parts of summer do you love the most?

Hope you have enjoyed reading and speak soon

Bye :)
